About UMA

Meet UMA

Yoga became an anchor through recovery, a route back into the body, and the beginning of a practice built around one truth: healing was never out of reach.

Where it all began

Yoga found me when I was seven, but it wasn’t until I was seventeen that it became something much deeper. I was in remission from cancer, recovering from a leg reconstruction, and relearning how to walk. Yoga became my anchor through all of it, teaching me how to reconnect with myself, through my body and far beyond it. It showed me that even in our hardest moments, there’s real power in stillness, in movement, in choosing to love ourselves anyway.

During treatment, I often turned to sound healing and felt it bring my body back into equilibrium. It was my first real experience of how sound could shift something in me that words couldn’t reach.

For a long time before that, I didn’t realise I was lost. I was constantly moulding myself into something more palatable, listening to other people’s projections of me and quietly making them my own. I was outsourcing my validation, looking everywhere but inward. Having cancer taught me how to truly treat myself and to quiet my mind enough to actually hear my own heart. That’s what healed me. Yoga shifted all the energy I was holding, and it taught me something I now build my whole practice around: healing was never out of reach. It was always in reach. That’s why I teach yoga beyond the mat.

Returning to the roots

Finding my practice in India

That search pulled me back to India, the roots of yoga, where I now live and continue learning the transformative power of the practice. I trained in Traditional Hatha, Vinyasa, and Yin yoga, but more than the physical practice, I wanted to understand the philosophy underneath it, so I could share it with people honestly, not just teach a sequence of poses.

It was in the Himalayas that I deepened into Tibetan sound healing and felt firsthand how sound can shift our energy and bring us back into balance. That thread traced all the way back to those first sounds I’d leaned on during treatment. The experience changed how I understood healing altogether.

An invitation

What this means for you

Everything I offer now, whether a yoga class, a sound healing session, or a tea ceremony, comes from that same place. I’m not here to heal you. I’m here to hold the space, so you can remember that you already hold the power to heal yourself.
