Where it all began
Yoga found me when I was seven, but it wasn’t until I was seventeen that it became something much deeper. I was in remission from cancer, recovering from a leg reconstruction, and relearning how to walk. Yoga became my anchor through all of it, teaching me how to reconnect with myself, through my body and far beyond it. It showed me that even in our hardest moments, there’s real power in stillness, in movement, in choosing to love ourselves anyway.
During treatment, I often turned to sound healing and felt it bring my body back into equilibrium. It was my first real experience of how sound could shift something in me that words couldn’t reach.
For a long time before that, I didn’t realise I was lost. I was constantly moulding myself into something more palatable, listening to other people’s projections of me and quietly making them my own. I was outsourcing my validation, looking everywhere but inward. Having cancer taught me how to truly treat myself and to quiet my mind enough to actually hear my own heart. That’s what healed me. Yoga shifted all the energy I was holding, and it taught me something I now build my whole practice around: healing was never out of reach. It was always in reach. That’s why I teach yoga beyond the mat.
